Skill Assessment

Skills assessments are issued by relevant skills assessing authorities. A skills assessing authority is an organisation that checks that your skills meet the standards they set to work in a relevant occupation. Obtaining a suitable skills assessment is mandatory for some visa sub classes (and streams) and may be requested for others.

You may need to have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority to be eligible to apply for one of the below visas:

    • 189 Visa (Skilled Independent)
    • 190 Visa (Skilled Nominated)
    • 489 Visa (Skilled Regional – Provisional)
    • 186 Visa (Employer Nomination Scheme)
    • 187 Visa (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme)
    • 482 Visa (Temporary Skill Shortage)
    • 485 Visa (Temporary Graduate)

Skill Assessments are valid:

    • 3 years from their issue date  OR the expiry date on the assessment

Getting your skills assessed

ASSESSING AUTHORITY

You may need to have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority. The list of eligible skilled occupations states which assessing authority is appropriate for each occupation.

PROCESSING

You will provide all relevant documents, evidence and processing fee to Australian Skilled Migration or directly to the assessing authority.

POSITIVE ASSESSMENT

After receiving your successful assessment results, our migration agents will include your assessment in your visa application.
